Corporeal Threshold (2016)

Concept

Actions in Mime occur in sequence, being separated by socalled joints. In this process, the time it takes for each action to proceed and be done gets stretched and the whole process shows the interaction between the body and the space more accurately and for a long time. If you try to pass this door, you will experience this manipulated time, not the normal one and your actions would be uncomfortable and unnatural. The door gets closed if panels
are stuck together without any gaps. When the panels being stuck planer are extended along the time axis, the door allows the user to go through and has feeling of space showing the actions. The user can feel the manipulated time when passing the door.

Corporeal Mime

While common actions performed by the body generally occur at once without any distinction between each action,
actions in Mime occur in sequence, being separated by socalled joints. In this process, the time it takes for each action to proceed and be done gets stretched and the whole process shows the interaction between the body and the space more accurately and for a long time.

Operation

This door consists of panels each of which is carved out with specific traces of action at regular intervals. We extend or shorten these intervals between the panels like they do in Mime and therefore manipulate the time of the person passing the door. If you try to pass this door, you will experience this manipulated time, not the normal one and your actions would be uncomfortable and unnatural. The door gets closed if panels are stuck together without any gaps.
Performer - Audience

In this door which unfolds sequential actions, you can observe the process of the person going through it from various perspectives. The door allows the passer to become a performer of Mime and the observer to be part of an audience.
